Ten totally awesome wrestling shots from '06

Just before Christmas photos from our prep wrestling coverage back in 2006 were ported over to their new location in the PhotoNews Stacks. While I thought we had an awesome collection of images from 2004, browsing through the 2006 archive I began to think otherwise.

Starting with Seth Milks' roaring celebration after his first IHSA state title victory. The Indians' freshman sensation would go on to win three more state titles for a perfect high school four-peat career. Then there are a couple of artsy shots without the aid of photoshop that offer up a different perspective of the winter sport. 2006 was the first year that the Illinois High School Association honored a female official, Janice Strand, with the opportunity to scrambled around the mat calling out points in the male dominated, testosterone fueled sport.

Along with a couple of great facial expressions, there's a couple of good 'ole blood and gut images from that year in the main galley with more than 400 photographs from the regular and postseason.

Surprisingly, while it seems like yesterday, it's hard to believe that a decade has past and the boys featured below are quickly approaching the age of 30. Grab a coke or a cup of coffee, have a seat and check out the photos below along with almost 1,000 other high school wrestling photos and memories from more than a decade of covering the sport in East Central Illinois.
