The face of effort

Wrestling is the one high sport where every muscle fiber needs to work in concert to dominate your opponent or to avoid defeat by the dreaded pin. When the mind and body are working together above their peak level that effort is involuntarily transmitted to the face of the athlete. You'll see some players stick out their tongues, brows furrow matching that of a Shar Pei or display their own signature facial expression when giving their all. The look can last a long as it takes for the athlete to finish the stressful task. Most of the time grimace lasts but a second.

In today's republished gallery, we take a look at some of the best facial expression from wrestlers in our photo collection from 2005. After you looked these great photos below, mosey over to the complete gallery here and check out more great pictures from the year in the iphotonews.com online image archive.
