    St Thomas More Wins Tourney Title

    Champaign, IL - St. Thomas More’s Brittany Einck tied the school 3-point shooting record hitting 4 of 5 from behind the arc in the Sabers’ 54-47 win over the Centennial Chargers at the BlueStar High Country Classic Showcase Tournament. The senior led the Sabers in scoring with 16 points to hand undefeated Centennial their first loss of the season.

    St. Thomas More's Brittany Einck plays defense in first quarter action against Urbana. The senior led STM with a game-high 16 points to help the Sabers win the 3rd installment of the BlueStar Country Classic.

    Classmate Maggie Fitzgerald scored a point less (15) and finished with 8 rebounds. Both Einck and Fitzgerald were named to the all-tournament team.

    Also making a big contribution against the defending champion was St. Thomas More freshman Jade Brinkoetter. Brinkoetter finished with 10 points on a 5 for 6 effort from the field to help the Sabers take this year’s title.

    Katelynn Martinez, also a freshman, delivered a team-high 11 points for the Chargers. Stacia Simmons chipped in 8 points in the loss.

    STM, a Class 2A school, finished undefeated against all four Champaign-Urbana 3A public schools. The team faces 4A Rich South on Saturday when they host the BlueStar High School Showcase on Saturday.

    Also participating in this weekend’s shootout are Bolingbrook, Brebeuf Jesuit (IN), Thornton Fractional North and Von Stueben High School.
