    Parkland Notches Two Wins
By Rod Lovett, Parkland Sports Info

Champaign, IL - Both the Parkland Men's and Women's Basketball teams picked up big M-WAC wins on Saturday as they swept John Wood CC on Saturday. The Women raced out to an early lead and held on for a 72-66 win while the Men rallied in the second half to overtake the Blazers 58-53.

In the Men's contest, DJ Hoskins scored 17 of his game high 24 points in the second half and PC converted 6 of 8 free throws down the stretch to avenge an earlier defeat to JWCC. The Cobras trailed by as many as five in the second half before going on a 16-4 run to take control of the contest. Hoskins and Jeremy Paprocki (14 points), paced the offense for the Cobras who shot 42% for the game. John Wood dominated the glass, out rebounding PC 39-20, but was done in by poor shooting, making just 4 of 13 free throws and shooting only 36% from the field. Jared Johnson was the lone John Wood player in double figures with 24 points.

The victory improved PC to (10-12 7-4) while John Wood falls to (12-9 4-5). Next up for the Cobras is a long drive on Wednesday night to face Shawnee at 730.

The #11 Women's team built a 15 point second half lead only to see John Wood close to within three before PC held on for the win. The free throw line was the key for PC as the Cobras made 17-20 shots from the charity stripe. PC, who also shot well from the field making 46% of their shots, was led by Heather Pruemer who scored 20 points on 6-6 shooting from the field and was 8-9 at the line. Ashley Timmerman also finished in double figures with 15 points.

Randi Gronwald led the Blazers with 13 points and Alyssa Duffy added 12 in a losing effort. The win moves PC to (20-5 8-2) while John Wood drops to (11-12 5-3) on the year. Parkland travels to #3 Kankakee (22-1) for a Monday night non-conference contest.
