T-Bolts advance at state cheer championships

BLOOMINGTON - Members of the Tinley Park cheerleading team celebrate after learning the advanced to the second day of competition at the IHSA Competitive Cheer State Finals on Friday. The T-Bolts finished the first day of competition in fifth place behind teams from Lockport, Edwardsville, Marist, and Sandburg. The squad takes the floor later today at 3:30 p.m. in a bid to land a spot in the top three in the Large School Division. Also making it into the finals in the division were Schaumburg, Lincoln-Way East, Huntley, Maine South, and Lincoln-Way Central.

Best of 2023 state dance

BLOOMINGTON - This Friday, 90 high school dance teams will compete for one of ten spots in three divisions for a chance to win a state title at the Illinois High School Association's Competitive Dance State Finals. Here is a look back at some of the teams that competed in the 2023 state final.

The top 12 schools in Class 1A after the first round of competition included Morris, Highland, Jacksonville, Marion, Carmel, Glenbard South, Clinton, Murphysboro, Morton, Evergreen Park, and Triad.

In Class 2A, Geneva earned the division's top score with a 93.38. Also advancing to the second round of competition were Whitney Young, Lake Forest, Lake Zurich, Catholic Academy, Providence Catholic, Libertyville, Deerfield, Grant, Kenwood, Hinsdale South, and Oak Forest.

Lake Park finished the first day with a three-point advantage over the nearest qualifying team. The troupes advancing out of the 30 large schools in Illinois included Naperville North, Stevenson, Barrington, Maine South, Andrew, St. Charles East, Downers Grove South, Waubonsie Valley, South Elgin, Minooka, and Lincoln-Way East.
