Under the watchful eyes referee Mark Brooks behind her, Tigers' junior Gabrielle Mboyo-Meta dribbles the ball down the court looking for a way around St. Joseph-Ogden's Kaytlyn Baker during the team's first game of the season. After four quarters, Urbana fell to the host Spartans at the Toyota of Danville Turkey Tournament, 55-8. Chargers drop holiday tournament opener

Lady Titans Kaylin Williams draws a foul as she goes for a shot around Chargers' Mia Dejesus during second half action of their Toyota of Danville Turkey Tournament game on Monday. Tri-County came out on top to win their first game of the season besting Champaign Centennial, 67-21. Williams and her ten point finish made her one of four players on her team with double figures against the Chargers. Dejesus led her teammates in scoring with a team-high six points. Unity running back Matt Brown

Rockets erases Eagles' playoff hopes

Matt Brown, the unstoppable 6-foot-1 running back from Unity, drags three Newton players into the end zone for another Rocket touchdown on October 30, 2021. Thanks to a dominating performance defensely, the state-ranked, undefeated Unity football team won their first-round 2021 playoff game, 46-6. Brown, who scored five times, finished the game with 175 yards on 21 carries.

Friars win state cross country title

Fenwick's Lee and Dean O’Bryan work together while running the first lap of their race in the Class 2A Cross Country State Finals on Saturday. Dean (on the right), a sophomore at Fenwick High School, circumvented the course at Detweiller Park to set a new personal record time of 15 minutes, 37.33 seconds. Lee, a senior, crossed the finish line a little more than 30 seconds later at 16:05.68. The brothers finished 33rd and 87th, respectively, out of a field of 236 runners on Saturday, November 6, 2021. Their performance helped the Friars finish the race with 120 points ahead of Deerfield (141 points)and Morton (164 points) to take home the state team title.
